If you don’t know what kinds of lights to get, you run the risk of buying the wrong lights and then having to take or send them back. One of the choices you have in indoor and outdoor Christmas lights is the LED lights. The initials stand for light emitting diode. These lights use very little power and produce a wider angle of light. These kinds of lights a long time and can be used inside and outside.

LED lights are very safe since they do not get as hot as traditional lights, which is proven to be a fire hazard. Another popular choice these days are rope lights. These consist of lights inside of tubing. These lights also come in a myriad of colors with different specs such as chasing lights or still versions. They can interconnect to make them longer.
This type of indoor and outdoor Christmas lights are perfect for those hard to decorate areas. Another added benefit to these lights is that they are safe, even if kids accidently step on the them, they won't shatter like regular bulbs.

You’ll need to know how many lights you’ll require that can run safely on your home’s circuit. If you do choose LED lights, make sure you’re happy with your choice since these lights do tend to last for the long haul.

How To Decorate With Indoor and Outdoor Christmas Lights and more.

Christmas is right around the corner and it's that time again to start putting your holdiay ideas in motion and string up those outdoor christmas lights.

I've put together this short article to help get those ideas flowing.

The first place you want to consider decorating is the outside of your home since this is the first thing family and friends will see upon arriving at your house. Let this be your welcome mat and your inspiration for the rest of your holiday decor.

If you have inflatable decorations or physical displays, then you want to put these up first before stringing any outdoor christmas lights. This will likely give you ideas on a theme. Don't worry about getting all your displays up in one day, pace yourself, otherwise you'll be exhausted befoer you finish and might not be motivated to finish.

Your next move is hang your outdoor christmas lights first on the house and then if you can near your displays to show them up. Icicle lights are a nice touch on the roof top.

Once you're done adding your outdoor christmas lights to the house, you can move on to the rest of your yard like bushes and trees. Net lights are perfect for decorating small to medium hedge bushes while string lights are good in trees.

If you're lucky to have tall evergreens, you can decorate those just too. A nice touch would be to add lighted boxes underneath.  Before stringing up your outdoor christmas lights, make sure to check for any defects first. This will save you from hunting down those that are burned out or broken.

Don't forget to decorate your walkway, the front door and the mailbox if you have one. This will add finishing touches to your overall decorating scheme.

Once you've completed the outside, you can move indoors. If you can, try to keep the theme flowing inside the house. Decorate the mantle with garland and weave in miniature lights through the garland for a traditional look. You can also loop strings of cranberry beads so that they dangle down in small loops from the top of the mantle.

If you have a Christmas village, set that up. They bring a certain nostalgia and are a lot of fun to set up. The lighted ones are perfect with any kind of theme. One great way to tie the whole look together is to replace rugs, linens, tablecloth and such to match your theme.

Seasonal Lighting – Rope Lights Versus String Lights

Are you excited by the upcoming holiday or are you dreading the task of putting up seasonal lighting? We all know that it takes time to put up all those lights, inside and outside. Perhaps some insight on a few options will make this year's decorating a little more enjoyable.

The first thing you want to know is the difference between rope lights and string lights. You can't go wrong with any lights for that matter, but there are some that are easier to install than others.

Rope lights have sturdy PVC plastic tubing that protects the bulbs. That’s a nice little safety feature there so that if a light is broken in transit, you don’t get cut or poked. Remember how the string lights would get tangled up into one giant ball of frustration? You don’t have that problem with rope lights. Since the lights are inside the tubing, they don’t tangle up.

Ever spill something on string lights? They’re not easy to clean up if at all. With rope lights, if something spills on that outer tubing, the tubing is easy to wipe clean. In areas where there’s a lot of foot traffic, the rope lights are safer to use if you’re lining a walk area. With any decoration, rope lights can be used as an accent color and will give you a better fit because they’re easier to secure in place.

Rope lights wrap around objects in unity. You won’t have stray lights that will shine in one direction while the rest of the lights shine another.  These lights are easier to wrap around tree trunks without sliding out of place.

Whatever area or item you choose to decorate with rope lights, you can rest assured the rope lights will remain cooler to the touch since they don’t produce as much heat. They’re longer lasting and there’s less risk of overloading an outlet.

Now let’s look at string lights. They do cost less than rope lights and in a down economy, that’s always a plus. They’re easier to use on porch railings and columns. The lights don’t disappear from view if twined with garland like some rope lights do.

String lights are easier to tuck into Christmas tree branches. The bulbs are easier to replace unlike rope lights. If a rope light burns out in the middle, you may end up having to replace the entire length. If you use string lights, you can make them flash or chase with ease and it’s not expensive. With rope lights, the accessories, like controllers, can be very expensive.
